Many of us have recently come across the problem where the word "b o x" has been identified as inappropriate content despite it being a fundamental word used in DXL - for those interested, IBM have responded to complaints about this - see copy of response below. Author: john.holtman Message: Over the last several months, the developerWorks forums have been targeted for attack by spammers. In trying to defend against this, we have learned that our current filtering mechanisms are not sophisticated enough to consistently disallow spam posts without simultaneously blocking some legitimate posts. For example, the forums had been receiving hundreds of posts pointing to websites that provide live streaming of boxing matches. However, banning the word "boxing" in posts also banned "box". (Notice that we have since removed this filter, and thus I am now able to include those words in this post.) Also, our security policies do not allow for us to point out what word or phrase in a message is being disallowed. This would in essence be enabling the spammers to circumvent the filters. So much for the bad news; now for the good. Next week we will begin rolling out a new and more sophisticated filtering system that should go a long ways towards alleviating these types of problems.
